Nkomazi Nkomazi Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Thulisile Khoza, Speaker Million Shongwe, Chief Whip Simon Mabuza and the municipality MMCs went around Nkomazi to check the damaged structures of the municipality. The visit follows a hail storm which attacked the Nkomazi sub-region few weeks ago. After the storm, members of the provincial parliament and Nkomazi Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr Thulisile Khoza, accompanied the department of Human Settlement' MEC speedy Mashilo to check the RDP houses which were damaged by the hail storm. Houses, cars, business structures and hospitals are part of the things which were damaged by the storm. According to the municipality spokesperson, Mbuso Malale, the municipality had to go and check on how big are the damages caused by the storm so that they could have an idea of the needed budget to sort and revamp the structures. "Such things are called disaster as they happen unexpected but then the municipality cannot turn a blind eye as one of the damaged structures is a guard room of security officers. The fact that the guard room lost its roof during the storm makes it difficult for the security officers to work smoothly when it’s raining," said Mbuso Malale. Malale told Nkomazi Observer that damaged structures are both the KaMhlushwa stadium, Naas stadium, Masibekela Park and the Dludluma community hall. He further said that as much as they want to fix the damage as in yesterday but they do not have money budgeted for that. "We wish we can fix the damage as in yesterday but then because the damaged was not part of our budgeted, we cannot. Instead the municipality has to sit down and see if they can get funds elsewhere to help fix everything," continued Malale.
