TBHC KidsChildren from as early age as three to 14 years gathered at Thembalethu Home Based Care (THBC) and showcased their talent in different categories of the Thembalethu's after school programme. The kids told stories in different ways as some were doing poems while others preferred to tell their stories by acting drama. The kids came from different schools within the Nkomazi sub-region and competed in their respective categories. Spectators were thrilled when Andile Mahlalela rendered her poem titled, "Tinhlekelele" meaning disasters; they stood on their feet and clapped hands in appreciation. They had to be stopped by the programme director as the judges hardly heard what the contestant was saying. In her poem, she mentioned that some of the disasters cannot be prevented while other could be prevented. Andile told Nkomazi Observer that she is good because of the guidance and support she gets from the facilitators who are employed at Thembalethu Home Based Care. "I thank God for giving me people who are supportive in what I dream about, even though I may look too young but I believe that one day I will be a professional poet," said Andile. One of the attendees, Jabulile Sibisi, said that the after school programme is one of many programmes that helps open children’s minds. "This is one of many programmes that we have at Thembalethu Home Based Care and such programmes assist the kids to know better about things that are happening in the country and worldwide. Our drama's storylines depict themes ranging from hygiene, prevention of new HIV infections and the danger of drug abuse," she said. Sibisi is very proud of the job done by both the kids and those who assist them in creating the poems and dramas after seeing the performances on stage. Meanwhile Thembalethu Home Based Care CEO, Cleopas Maseko said that it is part of the organisation’s duties to make sure that children with talents get noticed as early as possible. "Remember we have a drama team which goes to England once in two years to entertain and educate the English."
